What causes anxiety?
Feeling overwrought every now and then due to an emotional trigger may be the signal of a deep seated serious anxiety. There are different sorts of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, social phobia, substance induced anxiety disorder, panic disorder, PTSD, OCD etc. Any of the below factors or a combination of these may trigger anxiety disorders. • Genetic History: Familial lineage of anxiety conditions may be the root cause of an anxiety disorder. Yet, kinship with those with mental health issues by itself doesn’t mean you’ll have a related disorder. • Personality Types: Research has pinpointed certain common characteristics witnessed among individuals with anxiety conditions. Qualities like low self-esteem, avoidance, unruliness, perfectionism, overthinking, resistance to change, timidity, inhibitions, empathy, irritability, acute imagination etc. have been identified as likely to propel anxiety. • Medical Reasons: A cardiac arrest may bring in its wake anxiety symptoms such as breathing difficulties, heart palpitations etc. for some survivors. Similarly, anxiety symptoms like irritability, insomnia, heart palpitations and nervousness may originate from an immoderate secretion of thyroid gland hormones. Diabetes, asthma, cardiac disorders, hypertension, depression and overstressing about some prior illness are commonly linked with anxiety conditions. A whole lot of medications may also trigger anxiety attacks as a side effect. OTC weight loss supplements, OTC decongestants, OTC combination cold remedies and drugs for asthma and thyroid are the chief culprits. Stopping the intake of certain anti-anxiety medications like benzodiazepines mid-way may also increase the risk to anxiety. • Substance Abuse: Sufferers of anxiety disorders are more predisposed to alcohol and drugs abuse than others. They may in fact find it impossible to quit their addictions. The contrary can also be true. Substance abuse first can trigger anxiety conditions in consequence.
