Type I schizophrenia typically includes all positive symptoms. The condition develops late in life and occurs suddenly. Type I schizophrenia manifests symptoms, such as delusions, hallucinations, confused thinking, and bizarre behavior. Patients with this problem normally function well before the symptoms appear. The disturbed behaviors tend to come and go over time. This condition responds well to pharmacotherapy, like antipsychotic medication and is believed to stem from problems in dopamine neurotransmission. Patients have higher premorbid functioning.
