About STDs

Sexually transmitted diseases is an umbrella term used to describe a wide range of infections that pass from one individual to another via sexual contact. In most cases, STDs develop due to bacterial, parasitic, viral or yeast attacks. Currently, over 20 different kinds of STDs have been categorized, and some of the more popular ones include genital herpes, HPV, syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, and HIV/AIDS. Most sexually transmitted diseases do not exhibit any symptoms or the intensity is very mild. Thus, it is possible that a person may have one of these conditions and not even be aware of it. Most STDs are detected with the help of simple tests. Unfortunately, routine testing is not very prevalent in India. As a result, a lot of cases of STDs go untreated and, even worse, undiagnosed. This leads to severe health risks later on, especially in case of women. The majority of STDs affect both women and men. However, the problem is more acutely seen in women. If a pregnant female contracts an STD, it can lead to major health complications for the baby. Antibiotics are used for treating sexually transmitted diseases that occur due to yeast, parasites, or bacteria. However, there currently exists no cure for viral STDs. Medicines help relieve some of the symptoms though, and check the spread of the disease. The proper usage of latex condoms reduces the chances of contracting STDs considerably. However, please note that they do not completely halt the spread or catching of STDs.
