While the exact reason behind social phobia remains unknown, contemporary research supports the theory that it occurs due to a mix of genetics and environmental factors. Negative experiences like bullying, sexual abuse, and family conflict also lead to this problem. Serotonin imbalance and other physical abnormalities can also lead to this condition. Anxiety problems can even be hereditary. But researchers are unsure if they are actually connected to genetic factors. Children sometimes develop social anxiety disorders because they are raised in overprotective and controlling environments. However, the cause could be different for different individuals.
