If one doing sex regularly or without use of condoms, does one catch sexually transmitted diseases? How they spread? What are the types of these diseases?

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) spread through sex (oral, anal or vaginal) and even by skin-to-skin contact between genitals. Due to non-existence of symptoms in some cases, they may be hard to detect. Yet, these infections pose serious health complications and must not go untreated. Sexually active youngsters – particularly those between ages 15 to 24 - are most exposed to the risk of contracting STDs. However, these may occur in anyone and therefore prevention and timely detection are important. Regular medical check-ups can be useful in this regard. If you notice any of the common STD signs and symptoms like unusual genital discharge, painful urination, urinating more frequently, pain during sex and sores, lesions, bumps or itching in the pubic area, visit your doctor immediately. Multiple sexual partners, sex with someone has or has had multiple sexual partners, history of STIs and use of drugs that are injected into the veins (intravenous drugs) are few risk factors of STDs. Unprotected sex without condoms is slightly riskier for transmission of STDs than protected sex. This is because condoms (particularly latex condoms) reduce the chances of most STIs. There are above 25 types of STDs caused by different kinds of bacteria, parasites and viruses. Each infection has its distinct cause, set of symptoms and treatment procedures. A few common ones are genital herpes, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, HPV, HBV, chancroid, pubic lice, chlamydia, syphilis, Mycoplasma genitalium, scabies, bacterial vaginosis, NGU, molluscum contagiosum and HIV.
