Doctors will sometimes find cysts in women during a pelvic examination. They will then proceed to ask questions regarding the pain and other symptoms. They might even suggest an ultrasound. This device uses sound waves for taking pictures within the body and is capable of showing the details of a cyst clearly. In some cases, women with cysts may even have to go through blood tests to discover the cause of the pain and check whether the problem stems from hormones.
