You must work closely with a physician who is experienced in monitoring and prescribing various medications for OCD in adolescents and children. They should tell you about possible side effects. Consider your options and gauge their effectiveness. Get instructions on how to lower the dosage eventually. The most effective medication for kids and adults with OCD is antidepressants categorized as serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Due to varying body chemistry, the dosage and type of medication prescribed will vary considerably. Many children respond well to the first drug prescribed, but others have to try more than one. Effects may take up to 10 to 12 weeks to become visible.
