Calcium is essential for strong bones and helps prevent bone loss and injuries in children. Its deficiency makes the body draw calcium from the bones to maintain normal blood levels and prevent bone weakening. Childhood is the best time to build strong bones. Calcium and vitamin D deficiency, on the other hand, can lead to the disease called rickets in children that softens bones and causes stunted growth, bowed legs and in some cases, weak or sore muscles. If your boy doesn’t like milk, you can make him eat yogurt, cheese, soybeans, broccoli, cabbage, collard greens, kale and other leafy green vegetables. Sesame seeds, almonds, oranges, white beans, chickpeas, red beans and sesame seeds are some other natural sources of calcium.
