You should drink plenty of fluids like water when you have UTIs. This will directly affect your urine output. Urinating frequently throughout the day expels all the harmful bacteria from the urinary tract that can potentially cause UTIs. Cranberry juice can also improve your hydration status and cranberries may stop bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract, thereby reducing the risk of infections. Just remember to consume unsweetened cranberry juice, not sweetened ready-made products. Similarly, intake of vitamin C makes your urine more acidic that helps kill off the infection-causing bacteria. Natural sources of vitamin C like lemon, grapefruit, oranges and kiwifruit are good options to have. You can drink a glass of lemon juice every day to bring down your risk of urinary tract infections.
