Menopause marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycles. If you’ve gone a year without periods, suffice to say you’ve entered this phase. This natural biological process generally occurs in 40 and 50 year olds. It is accompanied by symptoms like vaginal dryness, night sweats, hot flashes, irregular periods, chills, sleep problems, loss of breast fullness, weight gain and reduced metabolism, mood changes, and dry skin and thinning hair. These physical symptoms may disrupt a patient’s sleep, affect her emotional health, or lower her energy. Keep in mind that the symptoms of menstrual change are different for all women. Women who are nearing the age of menopause are likely to experience some sort of menstrual irregularities before they end.
