Infertility is a reproductive condition characterized by the failure of couples to conceive even after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sex. Nearly 9 to 15 percent of couples suffer from fertility issues, and the problem may affect both males and females. In women, infertility may occur due to various issues, especially the ones related to the ovaries. The eggs may have low fertility, ovulation may be hindered, or menstrual flow may be irregular. Blocked fallopian tubes may also lead to infertility, even infection, as can uterus problems. Please note that women may suffer from fertility issues even if their periods are regular. In men, infertility is often a result of low sperm count, poor sperm quality, or motility problems. Males might have trouble ejaculating, which makes it hard to engage in sexual intercourse and sire a child. In some cases, both partners may experience fertility problems. Generally, 30 percent of fertility problems occur due to men, 30 percent due to women, and the remaining 30 to 40 percent due to both or unknown reasons.Read more
