About Hypertension

Hypertension is the medical term for elevated blood pressure. This severe medical condition can raise the risks of brain, heart, kidney, and other disorders considerably. Nearly 1.13 billion individuals across the globe suffer from hypertension, most in low- and middle-income nations. Blood pressure describes the force exerted by circulating blood on the arterial walls, which are the primary blood vessels in the body. When the blood pressure becomes too high, it is known as hypertension. You will be diagnosed with hypertension if, when it is calculated on two separate days, the systolic BP readings on both days is more than or equal to 140 mmHg and/or the diastolic BP readings is more than or equal to 90 mmHg. There are several modifiable risk factors associated with hypertension, including unhealthy diets, alcohol and tobacco consumption, obesity, and physical inactivity. Non-modifiable risk factors include co-existing diseases like kidney diseases or diabetes, age over 65, and a family history of the condition.
