HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a kind of retrovirus that infects humans who come in contact with tissues lining the anal region, eyes, mouth, vagina, or via a break in the skin. The disease progresses slowly and the virus is present throughout the body at every stage. Upon maturity, HIV acquires the ability to mutate its own structure and these mutations allow the virus to grow resistant to previously effective drug therapy. Drug therapy seeks to limit immune system damage by the HIV virus or to delay or halt the progress of the infection to this symptomatic disease. HIV therapy includes a combination of drugs that lower the growth of the virus so that treatment prohibits or considerably delays the development of viral resistance to the drugs.Read more
