PCOS patients trying to conceive have several treatment options available. The most effective therapy is weight loss. Even losing 7 percent of body weight can regulate menstrual cycles and balance hormones. The best part is, you don’t have to shed your weight quickly through fad diets. A weight loss of 5 to 10 percent over a six-month period can induce ovulation. Oral medication enhances ovulation and allows the woman to ovulate on her own. While clomiphene is usually prescribed, some doctors also recommend letrozole, which is used to treat cancer. You should take the drug depending on your condition. Another drug called metformin can provide additional help when combined with weight loss. This medication is commonly used for treating type 2 diabetes. When ovary stimulating drugs fail to offer positive results, doctors may suggest in vitro fertilization.
