Male infertility is a condition characterized by the inability to conceive a child even after regular and unprotected sex for a year. The causes vary considerably, ranging from physical testicular issues, blockage in the sperm transporting ducts, hormonal abnormalities, previous history of mumps or high fevers, genetic disorders to environmental or lifestyle factors, and others. One-third infertility cases are due to the male partner and one-third due to the female partner. The cause cannot be determined for the remaining one-third. Patients should consult a doctor. The diagnosis will involve discussions and physical tests to find out if you are infertile and the underlying cause. When the cause is found, different treatments are administered including medication, surgery, assisted reproductive technology (IVF), infection treatment, treatment of sexual dysfunction, and hormonal treatments. However, rest easy knowing infertility treatments mostly yield positive results.
