It’s difficult to state the exact causes of eczema. The disorder is thought to crop from a number of genetic and environmental factors. Atopic dermatitis is more likely to occur in children who have had ancestors with allergic diseases – asthma, atopic dermatitis or hay fever. External triggers in the susceptible children’s environment may also trigger an over-defense mechanism in the immune system that leads to inflammation and eczema. Few common triggers are dryness, irritants, infections, allergens like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, sweating, hot, cold or dry weather, perfumes in cosmetics, cleansers, detergents, saliva from drooling, harsh fabrics, common cold, etc. AD also emerges due to an impaired skin barrier that lets pathogens in and water out. Filaggrin deficiency (a type of protein which is considered as a building block to skin barrier functions) is another risk factor for eczema.
