The permissible weight gain for a pregnant woman mainly depends on three factors: her pre-pregnancy BMI, her health and the baby’s health. As general guidelines, you can consider the below indicators for weight gain during pregnancy: • Underweight women with pre-pregnancy BMI below 18.5 can gain around 13-18 kilos • Women with normal pre-pregnancy BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 can gain around 11-16 kilos • Overweight women with pre-pregnancy BMI between 25 and 29.9 can gain around 7-11 kilos • Finally, obese women with pre-pregnancy BMI 30 or above can gain around 5-9 kilos
