Your scalp flaking can sometimes be symptom of more serious diseases like seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. Flaking in scalp eczema can be managed with olive or mineral oil. Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E in olive oil exert anti-inflammatory and hydrating action on dried plaques. Leave the oil on the affected scalp for about an hour before you comb and loosen the flakes. Then, rinse the scales off using a mild and preferably a medicated shampoo containing coal tar, salicylic acid, ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, lactic acid or Blue Lagoon algae as active ingredients. Increased olive oil intake through diet will also benefit your scaly scalp. Or, you can try the anti-microbial coconut oil that may also aid to ease eczema symptoms by moisturizing your scalp. While treating eczema abstain from the use of hair gels, creams, dyes, sprays and other styling products, particularly those containing alcohol.
