About Asthma
Asthma is a chronic and incurable respiratory disorder. It involves the inflammation and constriction of airways, leading to restricted air supply in the body. The airways become hypersensitive to certain substances entering during inhalation. This hypersensitivity may cause reactions and constrict the muscles that control the airways, triggering mucus overproduction. Excess of such inflammation in the lungs may bring about an acute asthma attack. Swelling of the airways can even cut off oxygen supply to the lungs, and prevent it from entering the bloodstream and the the vital organs. Such an attack can prove fatal and requires immediate medical intervention by a pulmonologist. Generally, asthmatic symptoms range from periodic attacks, episodes of chest tightness or pain, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, to troubled sleep from labored breathing, wheezing or coughing.
