About Allergies
Allergies are conditions involving an abnormal overreaction by our immune system to a foreign substance. These are among the most prevalent chronic conditions around the world. An allergic reaction emerges from the immune system. The immune system of allergy patients perceives a foreign, harmless object as a threat and overreacts by producing Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. As a result, an allergic reaction is triggered when these antibodies move to the cells that release histamine and other chemicals. The most common allergens are dust, pollen, food, insect stings, mold, animal dander, medications, and latex.
